In the studio, there are no computers. Everything we do, we do by hand. In this incredible workshop, you will be offered the opportunity to turn off your phone and get creative. Half the day will be dedicated to making a sketchbook using letterpress printed covers; and half the day will be spent enjoying a walk on Dartmoor.
You can come with ideas, or without. Either way, we'll teach you the basics of letterpress printing and introduce you to our favourite studio processes for dealing with overwhelm and decision paralysis. Then, we'll get outside for some green sketching and joy spotting.
- Morning: studio session to make a sketchbook
- Lunch: break for lunch (available from a local café)
- Afternoon: guided walk on Dartmoor - appropriate for the ability of the group
Depending on the weather forecast, we may reverse the order of the day; however, we will proceed with the studio portion of the workshop rain-or-shine. Regardless of the weather forecast, we recommend you bring waterproofs.
It really is okay if you're not crafty. We'll walk you through everything you need to know (and leave out the stuff you don't need to know).
What's included:
- One-to-one support to design and print a small notebook.
- All supplies.
- Half day in the workshop, with full access to our printing supplies.
- Coffee/tea/cake/lunch are provided.
- You are welcome to bring a friend or family member at no additional charge. Please let us know at the time of booking if there will be one or two people attending. There will only be time to print one notebook design. Larger groups can be accommodated, but please email with details before booking.
- Accommodation can be arranged separately with our marvellous neighbours at Tor Royal B&B or Dartmoor glamping. Links open in a new window.
This also makes a GREAT gift. Simply let us know in the "notes" section when you're making the purchase, and we'll send you a beautifully printed gift certificate that you can give to the lucky recipient. Note: if it's close to the deadline, please purchase a Gift Certificate instead, and the recipient will receive an email-based gift card.
Workshop participants will have access to 15% off all Princetown Press products during their time at the studio.
The workshop is open to everyone, however, there is not an accessible toilet on-site. Participants under the age of 18 will probably benefit from having an older family member or guardian present. The presses are designed to be used while standing, and there is limited seating. Please get in touch if you like to talk through any accommodations that might improve your experience in the studio, or if you have any other questions or concerns about the workshop or facilities.
The workshop is held at our workshop in Princetown, Devon, England. The space is unheated, so please dress warmly if you are booking a workshop during the colder months.
For the guided walk, we can accommodate mobility scooters on one of the "miles without stiles" routes leaving from Princetown. Please let us know ahead of time and we'll plan an appropriate route.
